Toronto General Hospital
Part of the University of Toronto’s University Health Network (UHN), Toronto General Hospital (TGH) is one of the oldest hospitals in the city. TGH is a respected leader in acute care patient services. The hospital has numerous medical and surgical program specialties in addition to a constantly busy downtown Emergency Department.
In 2002/2003 TGH managed 16,420 admissions, 471 beds, 2,144 open-heart surgeries, 233 organ transplants and 560 kidney dialysis patients. 9,938 surgeries were performed and 28,065 emergency visits were attended.
As a leading-edge medical and educational facility, UHN/TGH identified a need to improve and extend their ability to provide campus-wide voice and data communications. Enterprise productivity and quality of care/service issues were critical. UHN/TGH sourced for an expandable, affordable investment.
AirJuice Global installed an in-building voice and data communications platform for UHN/TGH Operating Rooms. The AirJuice LC2020 delivers UHN/TGH with the ability to broadcast wireless communications throughout the campus with minimal maintenance and/or operational expenses. 100% building coverage allows all life-critical processes and health care users to communicate immediately and effectively. Overhead paging is eliminated and patient care response and quality of service has been improved.
The key result has been increased operational efficiency of the OR facility. Coverage for multiple wireless applications is provided including telephones, mobile phones, pagers, nurse call systems, PDA, Blackberry™, fax and portable computers. Strategic vendor partners on this project: Bell Canada, Spectralink, Connexall, Rawlings and Cisco.
